  1. Following some responses to this blog post re: always giving way to pedestrians on shared use path. Of course you should give way, and I always do. But building facilities that lump people walking and people on bikes together and treats them as one and the same helps nobody in the long run. Bikes on the shared use path make it less pleasant for people walking, no matter how well mannered the cyclists are. Shared use paths are better than nothing, and for a new or especially vulnerable rider they are better than the road, but they are not sufficiently tempting to use that they will get people out of cars and on to bikes or walking.
